The epic tale of a man who stole a loaf of bread to feed his sister’s starving son but ended up serving nineteen years in prison. After breaking his parole to make a new life for himself, Valjean, inspired to turn his life around by a kind Bishop, is pursued by police inspector Javert. Valjean always keeps on the move; adopting the recently orphaned Cosette along the way, whom he rescues from the unscrupulous Thénardiers. He even joins a group of young idealists on the barricade in their ill-fated rebellion against the monarchy. Seen by over 130 million people worldwide in 53 countries and in 22 languages, and now returning to the Redgrave Theatre in May 2024.
