Patience

30th March 2023 - 1st April 2023

Price: £18.00

All the well-born ladies in the village are in love with the "fleshly" poet, Bunthorne. Bunthorne enjoys the ladies' attention, but he is in love with Patience, the simple village milkmaid who cares nothing for poetry. When a rival "idyllic" poet enters the fray, Patience's world is turned topsy-turvy and she learns that true love must be completely unselfish!

The ladies' military suitors don't care for poetry either, nor the strange fashion tastes that seem to come with it, but decide to try styling themselves like the poets in an attempt to win the women's hearts.

While Patience traditionally satirises the aesthetic movement of the 1870s and '80s, our lavish production is set in the roaring twenties, where we examine the show's core themes: superficiality, vanity, fads, hypocrisy and pretentiousness.

Will Patience learn how to love? Can a group of amateur singers of varying ages and abilities learn something resembling a Charleston in just a few short months? And who will be Bunthorne's bride? All will be answered in this not-to-be-missed production of Gilbert & Sullivan's most romantic work.
