Clifton College presents Made in Dagenham, based on the true story of women's fight for equal pay in the UK. Set in Dagenham in 1968, it tells the story of Rita, a mother, housewife and machinist at the Ford factory whose life changes when it is announced that the women will have their pay grade dropped to 'unskilled'. Inspired by her friend and colleague Connie, and drawing on a strength she never knew she had, Rita leads the women in a battle for equal pay.
Funny, touching and timeless, Made in Dagenham shows how ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they stand together.
We would like to bring to your attention that Made in Dagenham has been rated as suitable for audiences aged 12 and over due to mild swearing.
Additionally, the musical is set in the 1960s, during a time when women were fighting for equal rights. As such, some characters in the production comment on and display outdated views and expectations regarding the roles of women, which were prevalent at the time. These views are challenged and confronted by the women in the story, who take a stand for equality.
