The story is based on the book by Bella & Samuel Spewack, about a touring company performing a musical version of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew". The plot revolves around the leading actors, ex husband and wife, who duplicate backstage the squabbles of the main characters of the play. This is one of Cole Porter's finest scores and his most successful Broadway show.
